Be Wary of Dating in Detroit- Your Date Might Steal Your Car

31 August 2009 No Comment

wingsA woman in Detroit is wondering what when wrong. She met a stranger at a local casino and decided to have dinner with “Chris” in the Detroit suburb of Ferndale a week later. The couple had finished up their meal at Buffalo Wild Wings when “Chris” realized he’d left his wallet in her car. She handed over the keys only to find him speeding away in her 2000 Chevy Impala minutes later.

It turns out 23-year-old “Chris” is really Terrance Dejuan McCoy. And McCoy not only tried to steal his date’s car, he walked out on the bill for the not-so-romantic dinner. The irate woman called the police and McCoy was nabbed. It was the picture on the woman’s cell phone that identified McCoy as the perpetrator. His phone number in her phone helped as well.

Instead of a good night kiss, McCoy is looking at up to five years for taking his date’s car unlawfully and faces trial Thursday, September 3.

Bizarre as it all might seem, there are several warning signs that jump out to most women in this course of events. Meeting a man in a casino is always suspect although it can be forgiven as the date was a week later, presumably giving the woman a chance to see through any drunken swagger brought on by the man’s need for more gambling funds.

The most glaring hole in the story is that the man left his wallet in the woman’s car. Why were he and his wallet in the woman’s car in the first place? What sort of date did she think she was going to enjoy with someone who couldn’t get there under his own steam? Not only did she break the cardinal rule for first dates – meet the guy at the restaurant, she took his broke body for a ride in her own car. No wonder he stole it.
